Eating Disorder Therapy
Eating disorders don’t discriminate…
You feel overwhelmed by your relationship with food, your body, and the constant external noise around what you should eat and how you should look. You’re caught up in cycles of shame, guilt, or self-criticism, feeling like you're constantly at odds with yourself.
You’re trying to navigate the large volume of societal pressure and cultural messaging related to bodies and beauty standards, while also trying to feel safe in your own body.
You question the validity of your struggle because when you hear the words “eating disorder,” you get a visual image of someone who doesn’t look like you.
I want you to know that your struggle and lived experiences are valid and that anyone can be impacted by an eating disorder regardless of racial identity, body size, gender identity, or body ability.
It’s not just about the food…
Eating disorders and disordered eating often have deep roots, touching on experiences of self-worth, control, identity, and belonging. Restriction, purging, binging, exercising, monitoring body size and/or chronic dieting are often used as a means to cope, manage emotional pain or feel a sense of control in an environment that restricts agency and autonomy.
Working to understanding the unique role these patterns have played in your life often is a helpful first step to healing. When we understand the need being met and purpose for behaviors, we can create space for exploring new ways of relating to food, your body, and yourself that feel compassionate, gentle, and sustainable.
No matter where you are in your journey, I am here to meet you with empathy and understanding.
Healing from an eating disorder is not about 'fixing' yourself or expelling parts of you; it’s about deepening self compassion and reconnecting with the parts of you that have felt lost, hidden, or neglected. Together, we’ll work towards a life that feels more whole, authentic, and at peace with who you are.
